PPS-Generators
14. The engines may be supplied from a day tank system furnished and installed by
the mechanical trade, complete with pump, overflow pan, float switches and
piping to the engine solenoid valves. Provide on each engine a factory mounted
10 gallon priming tank, complete with solenoid valve cn upstream side of tank,
and piping from tank to the engine driven fuel pumps. Include power supply
connections, and circuitry extensions to all pump motors (at day tank and at remote
storage tank), float switches, solenoid valve, etc. as required for complete control
of fuel supply.
15. "Critical" type muffler, thimble for exhaust pipe "through building" connection,
and flexible exhaust pipe section for incorporation into the required exhaust pipe
system which will be installed separate from the electric work. Muffler shall be
sized so that the engine will be capable of delivering its rated output with a
friction head back pressure of up to 3/4" of mercury in the exhaust pipe extension
from the output side of the muffler (i.e., excluding the drop in the muffler).
16. Air box drain collectors, interconnecting piping and central collector if required,
to insure no spillage of fuel oil during periods when the engine is running lightly
loaded or unloaded.
17. Integrally factory-mounted radiator, forward blowing fan (blow through radiator
from engine side), engine jacket water pump, thermostatic water flow control,
and all other equipment and appurtenances as required for a self-contained water
cooling system, including suitable collar at radiator for duct connection which will
be separate from the electric work. Any required intercooling or aftercooling
shall be derived from the aforementioned radiator or from an additional integrally
mounted radiator stage. Fan shall be capable of overcoming 1" external static in
addition to radiator and load bank.
18. Integrally factory mounted and wired engine block heater with thermostat and
"engine running" cut out contact to maintain jacket water temperature at least
1(X)°F when engine is not running and ambient temperature of room is maintained
at not less than 50°F. Incorporate comactor-if required-and disconnect switch.
Heater shall be suitable for operation from a separate 50 amp, 120/208 volt, 3
phase, 4 wire electric supply.
F. The generator of each generator set, together with its associated voltage regulator, exciter,
control switchgesr, instrumentation and controls shall be of a type which is suitable for
applications where the load to be supplied consists of substantial amounts of non-linear
(i.e., harmonic producing) equipment. To minimize the effect of the harmonics on the
generator voltage wave shape, incorporate the following features and functions:
I. The stator winding shall be of a 2/3 pitch design and shall be random wound.
