PPS-Generators
c. Operate unit from 0 to 100 percent load, starting, at no load and increasing
in u^rements of 25 percent then decreasing from 100 to 0 percent load in
25 percent increments. Hold at each incremental load for 10 minutes and
check at each load point for suble operation, fuel consumption, engine
performance, and generator performance. Each generator set shall be
capable of returning to its rated voltage and frequency within 5 seconds
with a maximum voltage drop of 20% when incremental loads are added.
d. Operate each unit from 0 to 100 percent load, with the following
increments: 0% to 50%, 50% to 0%, 25% to 75%, 75% to 25%, 0% to
100%, 100% to 0%. Hold at each incremental load for 10 minutes and
check for stable operation. The generator set shall be capable of
returning to its rated voltage and frequency within 5 seconds with a
maximum voltage drop of 25% when full load is added.
e. Perform full load transient tests verifying that kilowatts, voltage,
amperes, and frequency transient characteristics, are within acceptable
limits. Submit 3 phase oscillograph tracings of all transient tests and of
paralleling operation.
f. Check engine fuel system and water cooling system for possible leaks
during the load test. If any fuel or water leaks are observed, the unit
must be stopped and the leaking item shall be tightened or replaced as
required, and the load test shall be restarted.
g- Deliberately speed up the engine by misadjusting the governor and record
the speed at which the engine automatically shuts down.
h. Simulate low oil pressure by shorting the contacts of the oil pressure
relay, to test for automatic engine shutdown on low oil pressure.
1. Simulate high water temperature by shorting the contacts of the water
temperature relay to test for automatic engine shutdown on high water
temperature.
j- The load bank used for this test shall be 50% resistive and 50% non
linear.
2. After successful test the unit shall be broken down into 3 major components
(engine, generator, radiator) for shipment and installation at job site. The base
shall be cut for delivering and welding together at site.
