you can see from just two days data the fiber count has gone up even as a result of some cleaning. With TEM there would have been a possible increase of asbestos fiber count since our PCM numbers went up in certain areas. We need to be sure that when we move our perimeter in it will stay there.

Currently, sample results indicate the need to continue to remediate the contamination and perform additional sampling for clearance. If after additional cleanup the sampling results are substantially lower than the criteria of .01 fibers/cc we should move to shrink the chambers street perimeter if the other environmental agencies are in agreement. Otherwise we would need to continue to conduct additional air monitoring and cleaning until we achieve this goal. Some of the major problems in cleaning and clearing the area have been in trying to get construction traffic diverted away from the area. In addition, because we cannot get streets closed during cleaning we are forced to move at a slower pace. We were also set back because of new ID requirements for our contractors which will take one to two days to get all personnel the new IDs. I also have been told today that DEP workers will now need to turn in old IDs and need a new ID. This ^ain is going to set us back. I would like to not that Utilities like CON ED and Verizon do not need additional ID from there work ID.

New 50ft perimeter

DERTA is concerned about the proposed 50ft perimeter around ground zero as being the hot zone. Based on our sampling and experience on site we believe it should be set back further. It is a little unclear what 50ft will mean and from what point. However, 50 feet is approximately three car lengths and that seems very impractical from work and safety standpoint.

We have still not seen the vehicle advisory as promised from DOH. We feel this is a very critical issues and should have been conveyed.

First Response

No major haz mat first response request from the FDNY forward command post. The daily ground zero monitoring for dangerous gases was negative.

Future Progress

DERTA has surveyed other areas inside the perimeter in an effort to target potential sites to be opened. DERTA does not believe that it will be possible to clear any other areas because of the close proximity to ground zero. Major work at ground zero would have to be completed before we could reassess the feasibility of opening another area.
