te locations . During this period, air sampling will continue in roughly five regimes, referenced as:
I. -- -- Hot zone. The hot zone at and close to ground zero whrere portable and battery operated sampling takes place;
2. Nearby r.one. A slightly enlarged perimeter approximately 3 to IO blocks beyond the "hot zone"where residences and business are in operation. Note that these sites are fixed temporary with stable roof top locations and power. Some of the hot zone sites do extend into this area. For convenience they ae areas are separated based on location as well as methodology.
3. General population zone. Existing ambient monitoring stations operated by the NYDEC and NJDEP in the boroughs and NJ for background and transport (2 to 7 miles), depending on wind flow patterns.
4. Landfill r.one. The Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island where investigation and eventual disposal occurs.
5. Diesel zone .In the vicinity of major temporary diesel generators (if deployed) and primarily to track particulates. There are no monitoring recommendations at this time.
