Mr. Frederick Novotny, P.E. Chief, Division of Sewer Design Bureau of Sewers New York City Department of Envirbnmental Protection 40 Worth Street New York, New York 10007 Subject: World Trade Center Dey Street Underpass

Dekr Mr. Novotny: In connection with the planned Dey Street Underpass under Church Street, extensive utility relocation will be required. Based upon utility information we have available and as a result of preliminary discussions with certain of the utilities, it was determined that the best alignment to re-route the City's sewer in Dey Street is to the north of the kiosk founda tion structure. It is proposed to replace the existing 3’6" by 2'4" sewer which presently terminates with a 15" sewer section at Church Street with an 18" sewer and a 15" sewer, as shown on the enclosed "Working Drawing" dated September 11, 1979. Prior to progressing our plans further, we would appreciate your review of this "Working Drawing". As you can see from this drawing, it is also proposed to re-route the existing steam line along the north side of the kiosk foundation, thus incurring an additional limitation on available space. We have determined (confutations enclosed) that the capacity of the re-routed section of 18" sewer will have a greater capacity than the existing 15" sewer. Por your reference we are also enclosing a drawing showing existing utilities and a set of functional drawings. We would appreciate any comments you might have at this stage of the development of the plans for the Dey Stteet Underpass. Mr. John Spencer of iny staff is available to discuss the proposed work. Mr. Spencer may be reached on 466-7144. Thank you for your cooperation. Very^truly yours, 01234

R. M. Monti Chief Engineer Encs.
