Conducted an immediate and detailed technical assessment of the areas impacted by the
debris produced from the collapse of the Towers.
Prepared representative sampling scheme of the areas affected and for those potentially
affected by the impact.
Performed visual inspections and conducted bulk sampling and air monitoring of public
areas.
Conducted visual inspections and performed air monitoring in the interior of publicly
owned buildings, including City Hall and its surrounding grounds
Worked in conjunction with the EPA providing direction to contractors as to the
cleanup priorities for the public areas.
Hired and managed DEP contractors to perform cleanup of public areas.
DEP DERTA is continuing the management of private contractors to perform ongoing
air monitoring and analysis. DERTA will collect and assess the data and prepare a written
report as it pertains to the environmental impact of the site as it pertains to the emergency
response activities and subsequent non-emergency aspects of the incident.
Implemented the analytical services of Pedneault Laboratories to perform air monitoring
in the surrounding five boroughs.
Also performed entries into ground zero and beneath the World Trade Center. These
confined space entries were requested by FDNY and NYPD ESU.
Performed monitoring and assessing the conditions of the atmosphere at sub-surface
levels.
