NYC 9/11 Public Portal Document

104 Washington Street - this building house the Precinct support unit. I met with Linus Armstrong the Director of Public safety. He said that their building is sealed and the only place that was contaminated was the lobby. He used his cleaning staff to clean up affected surfaces. I informed him that he should also conduct some air monitoring. He agreed to do so.

115 Broadway -1 met handler supervisor Michal Batt # 80213 of Comco Asbestos removal Inc. and Oleg Berezhniy # AH 0017881 the 3*^ party air monitor of CTSI. Comco presently had 60 workers on site. They had finished cleaning the 1,2,3,4,13, 16, 17, floors. They were preparing to clean the 14* and 15* floors. Inspection revealed that there was heavy contamination on floors where the windows were open. On other floors there was little or no debris. CTSI was informed to fax the clearance results to DEP. The contractor is using two shifts for the clean up.

1 Liberty Plaza - Met with Marek Jendrosa handler supervisor # 82788 of ETS. He said that he had 80 workers on site. Also on site was PAL and CTS. The 3"* party air monitor on site was Hillman Environmental. In total there were about 150 asbestos workers. Work was being done throughout the building. A lot of windows facing the WTC had been blown out and even though the floor s were gross cleaned it still appeared contaminated. Hillman said they were doing a gross clean up first then were going to do a complete final clearance in the end. Even though some of the floors were cleaned the windows, which were broken, were not sealed. As a result dust were still coming into the building from the work ongoing at WTC.

180 Broadway - I met the security guard who informed me that the owner hired a company called NITRO to perform the clean up. Nitro is not an asbestos Contractor. This building has houses a Ranch ! fast food outlet and heavy contamination could be seen on the inside. The security officer also informed me that there were some office spaces with heavy contamination in them. He did not have keys to the spaces. He was given the DEP 24 hour number and asbestos clean-up recommendations for cleaning.
