Re: Amtrak Tunnel Extension
Dear Mr. Farag:
Amtrak has proposed to extend their existing single track from the vicinity
of 33rd Street to the vicinity of 38th Street by a combination of a tunnel,
open cut and at grade construction. The preliminary concepts for this re
location were prepared by others, and we are now preparing the contract
doctunents for this extension.
The proposed plan of the extension, shown on Fig. 1, will require relocation
of the combined sewers located in 33rd and 34th Streets along llth Avenue.
The tunnel grade at this location is about 13 ft. below the inverts of the
existing sewers. Previous studies of this relocation by others, have indicated
the use of a siphon to accomplish the relocation at both 33rd and 34th Streets.
We would appreciate reviewing with you existing sewer information, the project
configuarations, the: requirements for combined sewer relocations, the require
ments for use of a siphon and the submittals and reports needed for approval
of any proposed relocation. To implement this process, we suggest a brief
meeting to provide an opportunity to exchange information and to set the stage
for future formal submittals. To set this meeting please call me as soon as
possible at (212) 613-5155 or Mr. Erez Sela at (212) 613-5159.
We appreciate your cooperation in this most interesting and challenging project.
Very truly yours.
