September 4, 1987 Mr. Douglas Smith Bureau of Sewers Room 904C 40 Worth Street New York, New York 10013 Dear Mr. Smith: We are enclosing a copy of Drawing PT-1 and S-2 showing the location of a proposed new tunnel under 67th Street connecting the new Rockefeller Research Laboratory building to the existing Hospital. The tunnel, as currently designed, would pass over the existing 15 inch combined sewer In 67th Street. The Department of Transportation has requested that the tunnel be lowered two feet, which would then Interfere with the sewer. As we discussed today, it has been suggested that an inverted siphon be used to divert the sewer under the lowered tunnel. We understand from our conversation that the use of the inverted siphon is not permitted by your Department. We would appreciate your prompt written confirmation of our understanding. Thank you for your aid in this matter.
