• Update on HEPA Vacuuming of Financial District:
Clcan-up continued through the night at financial district and Wall Street area.
There is a problem vacuuming to the west of B’way, the noise created by the
machine interfered with the rescuers activities. A Deputy Inspector from the
Police Depart ment halted activity west of Broadway.
EPA contractors will begin clcan-up of City Hall Park and Park Row sidewalks at
7AM this morning.
• Derelict Vehicle Update:
Thus far, all derelict and towed vehicles have been moved to 2 locations:
I. Pier 76 (between 34& 35 Streets)
2. Market Slip (under FDR). ( Total of 50 Vehicles at both sites)
EPA will IIEPA vac dirt and debris at these two sites.
Another site to be established on the south side of the Hot Zone for vehicles that
are to he taken c it of the hot spot (Washington & Carlyslc this not yet
confirmed).
Legal Issues have arisen reg-rding the contractors liability regarding the cleaning
of debris ridden vehicles. Mark Hofifcr and Charles Sturcken have been
consulted and are attempting to work out the details.
• Freon Update: EPA tiwk airbag sample from shaft and used HazMat’s
equipment in the mobile lab to test the sample. They were testing specifically for
Freon R22 and the results were zero.
