Mr. Bernard P. Orlan February 28, 2002 Air Sampling for Lead Page 2 P.S./I.S. 89M ATC Project No. 15-19125-0297

The established regulatory values for metals are intended for industrial workplace exposures and are not generally applicable to office/school settings. There are no standards for these metals in indoor air in non-industrial situations. The Environmental Protection Agency’s ambient air standard for lead is 1.5 micrograms per cubic meter of air (1.5 ug/m’), this is a three-month average. The sampling method used for these samples was an attempt to duplicate the EPA’s method of sample collection as described on the EPA’s September 11* website. The lead in air results reported there are from twelve-hour samples.

Daniel Finkley, Environmental Technician from ATC’s New York City office, collected the samples.

Results

The levels of airborne lead did not exceed the limits of detection in any of the samples (<0.2 ug/m’).

ATC appreciates the opportunity to provide this indoor air quality service to the BOE. Please call me at (212) 353-8280 extension 212 if you have any questions.

Sincerely, ATC Associates, Inc.

James R. Cohn, CIH, CSP Regional Manager Industrial Hygiene Division
