RE: WTC 776.00 Church Street Underpass
at Dey Street-New Escalators, Pre
liminary Drawings, Borough of
Manhattan
Dear Mr. Carlock:
We have completed our review of the preliminary contract drawings submitted with
your letter of June 21, 1983. In keeping with our meeting of July 21, 1983, the
following point by point discussion should clarify the comments in the marked-up
set of plans we are returning.
The submitted plans did not show provisions for support or replacement of the
3’-6" X 2*-4" sewer which runs along the east wall of the BMT Subway in Church
Street. The affected area lies approximately between the north and south
building lines of Dey Street. Sewer Record Drawing R457, Route 5, Section 1
dated June 19, 1916 shows three (3) distinct types of construction within these
limits. Attached are xerox copies of pertinent sections of R457 for your in
formation.
As we discussed in the July 21, . meeting it does not seem likely that the brick
and concrete sections of sewer can be supported during the proposed construction,
i.e., underpinning of Citibank, driving of soldier beams and temporary support
of the subway roof at the escalator opening.
