RE: Intrepid Museum Project
Pier 86, North River, Manhattan
DPTWork Permit #810136
Dear Mr. Uriko:
The Department of Ports and Terminals and the Intrepid Museum Foundation,
Inc., a non-profit educational organization, have been working closely over the
past two years towards the establishment of an air, sea and .space museum on
board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. The Intrepid Museum will be permanently
berthed on the southside of Pier 86 located at the foot of West 46th Street.
The Foundation has completed its financing and has entered into a long
term leasing arrangement with this Department for the operation of a museum at
Pier 86. In order to generate revenues to cover debt service on the financing,
the Museum must open to the public on July 4th of 1982. To meet this scheduled
opening date, they have filed for Work Permits with the Department of Ports and
Terminals relating to all the construction work for the ship and pier. We have
been advised that the'Foundation's engineers, Cosentini Associates have also
filed with the Dep’artmept of Environmental Protection, specifically with your
office, the Bureau of Sewers, requesting approval of the sanitary sewer connection
to the City sewer mains located along 12th Avenue and West 46th Street. Your
expeditious review of their plans concerning this matter would be greatly
appreciated.
Since this project is a major waterfront development priority for the City
the Department and the Foundation would be prepared to schedule a briefing for
you in order to facilitate the review process. If you have any comments or
questions related to this projectplease contact the Project Manager, Luk Sun
Wong at 248-8592 or me at 248-8048,
Very^t^ily yours,
^seph Medler
