Hearing protection is required when exposure to noise levels exceeds that established under Section 1.0 (Physical Hazards), Paragraph 1.4.3 (Noise) of this ES&H Plan.

Personnel sitting within the cab of equipment or vehicles that are equipped with overhead protection are not required to wear hard hats.

3.1.3 Non-Zone Work Activities - Beyond 25 foot Perimeter

Minimum PPE: For w ork no t inv olving a ccess int o t he s pecific W TC Z ones, a nd beyond 25 feet of a Zone boundary, the following minimum PPE is required: • Safety shoes that provide adequate protection from the hazards present beyond 25 feet of a Zone boundary • Safety glasses • Hard hat • Long sleeve shirts and full-length trousers or coveralls • High visibility vests • Dust mask (personal preference)

3.1.4 Selection and Use of PPE

Selection and use of PPE shall be based on the performance characteristics of the PPE and task or site-specific hazards. PPE selection and use shall be documented in the contractor’s JHA. Documentation in the JHA shall meet certification requirements of 29 CFR 1910.132 regarding hazard assessment, activities evaluated, person certifying the evaluation, and the date of the assessment. The minimum PPE initially identified for each Zone and area may be changed based on field reconnaissance, results of site monitoring, or additional hazard analysis.

3.1.5 Maintenance and Storage

Assigned PPE shall be maintained and stored in a clean and sanitary manner. Contractors shall ensure that adequate facilities and supplies for cleaning, maintenance, storage, and issue of PPE (including respiratory protection) are made available for these activities at the work location or in a centralized area.

3.1.6 Training

Appropriate training shall be provided to PPE users and training shall be documented as required by Section 1.5. All respirator users shall be adequately trained in proper use of assigned respirators and the applicable respiratory protection program procedures. Personnel responsible for respirator cleaning, storage, maintenance and issue shall be provided additional training as necessary to ensure t hat r espirator p rogram r equirements a re m et. Al 1 r espiratory p rotection training shall meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.134.
