SECTION 3.0 GENERAL HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS________

3.1 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

PPE shall be selected, used, maintained, and stored in accordance with 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I, 29 CFR 1926 Subpart E, and the manufacturer’s recommendations. Engineering, administrative, and/or work practice controls shall be implemented where feasible, rather than relying exclusively on PPE. At a minimum, the following PPE shall be worn in the following Work Zones.

3.1.1 WTC Work Zones 1 - 4

Minimum PPE: During all work associated with the demolition, cleanup, and recovery effort in all WTC Zones, personnel entering the Zone(s) will be required to wear the following minimum PPE:

• Safety shoes that provide adequate protection from the hazards present in Zones 1-4. • Safety glasses, goggles, or other suitable eye protection • Hard hat • Long sleeve shirts and full-length trousers or coveralls • Protective gloves appropriate for the task being performed • High visibility vests • Half mask respirator with Organic Vapor/Acid (OVAG) Gas Cartridges and P-100 Pre­ filter

Hearing protection may also be required when exposure to noise levels exceeds that established under Section 1.0 (Physical Hazards), Paragraph 1.4.2 (Noise), of this ES&H Plan.

Personnel sitting within the cab of equipment or vehicles that are equipped with overhead protection are not required to wear hard hats.

3.1.2 Non-Zone Work Activities - Within 25 foot Perimeter

Minimum PPE: For work not involving access into the specific WTC Zones, but within 25 feet of a Zone boundary, the following minimum PPE is required: • Safety shoes'that provide adequate protection from the hazards present within 25 feet of a Zone boundary • Safety glasses, goggles, or other suitable eye protection • Hard hat • Long sleeve shirts and full-length trousers or coveralls • High visibility vests • Half mask respirator with P-100 filter
