Description of WTC 1 & 2: The larger of the buildings and by far the most well-known were WTC-1 and WTC-2, more commonly referred to as the “Twin Towers.” The Towers were opened for tenancy in 1970. The following data pertains to WTC-1 and WTC-2:

Height of Towers: 1350 feet Floor Size of Towers: 1 acre Total Floor Space: 10 million square feet Elevators: 104 in each Tower Parking Garage Capacity: 2000 cars (below ground) Shopping Mall: More than 60 stores on concourse level (street level) and Observation Deck on 107 floor of WTC-2 Construction Materials: 200,000 tons of steel 425,000 cubic yards of concrete 43,600 windows in two Towers

WTC Work Zone Description: The WTC Ground Zero area has been divided into four separate work zones. The boundaries of these zones has been determined based upon the four contractors who have been retained by the City of New York to clear and remove debris from the Ground Zero areas. The work zone contractors are as follows:

• Zone 1 - Tully • Zone 2 - Bovis • Zone 3 - Amec • Zone 4 - Turner

Figure 1.3 shows an outline of the Ground Zero area, the four work zones, and the respective contractor agencies for each zone.
