Brad, 105 Duane Street doesn't resemble 114 Liberty from a cleanup perspective, it does not fall into the category of an unoccupied building and in fact, as best to my knowledge, it is fully occupied. It probably falls into the EPA indoor cleanup category. As you know, I am meeting with EPA and Walter at 11 AM and will push to prioritize 105 Duane.

I talked this morning with Ben Berry in EPA's public affairs office regarding 105 Duane, a rental building.

He noted that roughy 1/2 of the residents have moved back in, and 1/2 are signed up for the EPA residential cleanup program (not the same half...there is overlap). Only one apartment interior has been cleaned to date as part of the EPA program.

Some of the residents apparently have strong feelings about the order in which areas are cleaned in the building. The management of the building undertook a building-wide cleanup of the heating system and common areas, and this effort has been evaluated by a monitoring contractor hired by EPA. Ben admitted that the contractor hired to do this monitoring and evaluation has not yet provided proper reports to EPA so that the agency can sign off on common areas; EPA is requesting additional data. Consequently, some of the residents feel that they want the interior areas evaluated and the common ventilation system evaluated and the carpeting removed before they schedule their interior apartment cleanup.

Apartments in the building have individual heating/cooling systems; it is the central system and common areas that have caused the holdup in getting a number of the residents back into their apartments.
