I talke .his morning with Ben Berry in EPA's public affairs office regarding 105 Duane, a rental building.
He nc that rouc / y 1/2 of the residents have moved back in, and 1/2 are signed up for the EPA residential cleanup
progra. (not the s:me half...there is overlap). Only one apartment interior has been cleaned to date as part of the EPA
progra
Some f the reside.its apparently have strong feelings about the order in which areas are cleaned in the building. The
management of the building undertook a building-wide cleanup of the heating system and common areas, and this effort
has been evaluate: by a monitoring contractor hired by EPA. Ben admitted that the contractor hired to do this monitoring
and e .'-iiuation has not yet provided proper reports to EPA so that the agency can sign off on common areas; EPA is
requesting additional data. Consequently, some of the residents feel that they want the interior areas evaluated and the
common ventilatio’ system evaluated and the carpeting removed before they schedule their interior apartment cleanup.
Apartr, mts in the . uiiding have individual heating/cooling systems; it is the central system and common areas that have
cause: the holdup n getting a number of the residents back into their apartments.
