approved system of double insulation need not be grounded. All light and power circuits in asbestos removal areas shall be ground fault protected.

4. Extension cords shall be the 3-wire type, shall be protected from damage, and shall not be fastened with staples, hung from nails, or suspended from wires. Splices shall have soldered wire connections with insulation equal to the cable. Worn or frayed cords shall not be used.

5. Safe lighting equipment shall be provided with a preference for floodlights rather than indiscriminate use of unprotected lamps strung on temporary wiring. Exposed bulbs shall be guarded to prevent accidental contact. Temporary wiring shall be properly insulated and substantially supported. Circuits shall be properly designed and fused. All temporary lighting inside of asbestos removal areas shall be waterproofed. Adequate lighting will be provided for the decontamination unit on the “A” level.

6. Receptacles for attachment plugs shall be approved, concealed contact type. Where different voltages, frequencies, or types of current are supplied, receptacles shall be of such design that attachment plugs are not interchangeable.

D. Ladders, Scaffolds and/or Staging: 1. The Asbestos Contractor shall supply OSHA-approved ladders, scaffolds and staging in sufficient quantity to ensure that all work surfaces can be easily and safely reached by workers and inspectors. Scaffolding may be suspension type or standing type and must comply with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and codes.

2. During the use of the scaffolding inside the Work Area(s), special care must be taken to ensure that protective barriers are not damaged. Scaffolding joints and ends shall be sealed with tape to prevent contamination with asbestos fibers and debris.

E. Air Filtration Equipment; 1. The air filtration equipment chosen for the project shall be operated in accordance with and meet the standards specified in the ERA Guidance Document (ERA 560/5-85-024, June 1985, Appendix J), ANSI Z9.2 (1979) Local exhaust ventilation, OSHA CFR29 1910.1001 (June 20, 1986).

2. Air filtration shall be continually maintained throughout the project. Sufficient spare units must be maintained inside and outside the Work Areas as indicated in Section 2.7.
