RE: Need for Portable Generators in Response to WTC Disaster
1 I The Division of Emergency Response and Technical Assessment, (DERTA) is requesting an emergency order of portable gasoline powered generators to provide reliable and uninterrupted electric power for equipment to be used at the increasing number of air quality monitoring sites that we are being requested to set up around
i B the area of the World Trade Center disaster. The air sampling pumps that we use are all run on standard 110 volt “house” current, which is not always readily available in the field. In addition, the type and method of sampling we are using in and around the exclusion zone of the incident involves the use of a single pump operating in each i/ of the separate and remote locations. This is opposed to our usual arrangement of multiple pumps around an enclosed area and run off of one or two large power units. The number of sites that we are able to sample from could be immediately expanded with the addition of more generators. Thank you for your prompt consideration.
