On behalf of the residents of Lower Manhattan I DEP to extend the registration deadline for the hereby urge you to request the EPA and EPA WIC Cleanup program beyond the current deadline of 12/28/02. We believe this is in the best interest of all concerned in protecting the health and safety of residents downtown. Only a fraction of those eligible have enrolled and we believe this is reflective of the lack of outreach by the EPA; th EPA has not followed its own guidelines in e implementing a COMPREHENSIVE AND AGGRESSIVE OUTREACH program. In addition, progress on the EPA's testing/cleaning of the building HVAC systems to date has been inadequate and this is critical to a the cleanup need to be extended beyond Canal comprehensive cleanup. The boundaries of St and be commercial spaces and the testing needs to be expanded expanded to cover schools and to cover more Contaminants of Potential Concern (COPC's). The establishment of a Record would go a long way to restoring public process and Administrative public's confidence in the EPA's ability to protect them in this and future terrorist attacks.
