Dear Mr. Gilsenan:

Enclosed please find copies of the interim final reports: “World Trade Center Background Study” and the “World Trade Center Residential Confirmation Cleaning Study”. These documents were prepared by the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) as part of the Indoor Air Residential Assistance Program - World Trade Center (“WTC”) Dust Cleanup, with the support of the members of the Indoor Air Work Group of EPA’s Indoor Air Task Force.

The background report presents the findings of a sampling program that was conducted in fourteen residential buildings not impacted by the airborne dust plume which emanated from the WTC site. Tlie purpose of the confiimaiion study was to confinn die adequacy of various cleaning and vacuuming methods used by residents and professional cleaning companies, in the aftermath of the attack, to clean dust and debris from residential living areas.

These reports are also available on EPA’s website at: www.epa. eov/wtc/. If there are any questions, 1 can be contacted at 212 637-3116.
