Additional Help FEMA. FEMA has a Mortgage and Rental Assistance Program that for those who are temporarily or permanently unemployed due to the WTC Attacks, and need assistance to make their mortage and rental payments. We strongly recommend that you register with FEMA by telephone at (800) 462 9029, TTY (800) 462 7585, in order to obtain Federal disaster assistance, and/or information on other sources of disaster assistance. The registration process allows the case worker taking your call to help you identify possible sources of assistance you may not otherwise know about. Legal Services. There are several programs in the New York area designed to provide legal assistance, advice and referrals for victims and their families, and anyone else affected by the WTC Attacks.
The American Bar Association (ABA) has a web site www.abanet.orq/leqalservices/disaster.html that is a good resource for these different programs. There is also a Disaster Legal Services Toll Free Hotline at (866) 606 0626 run by the ABA Young Lawyers Division/FEMA.
