Westside Corporation Meeting Some months ago, DEP received a request from th office of State Senator Malcolm Smith sample the homes ofapproximately 5,000 residents in the area of the Westside Corporation, Jamaica, Queens for tetrachloroethene (PCE). The Senator made this request because of the fact that sometime ago the Westside Corporation had contaminated the ground in the area and the residents are concerned that this contamination will effect their drinking water. Despite assurances that this is not the case because the drinking water in the area is mainly surface water and the well water that supplements the surface water has no tetrachloroethene, there remained concern. A meeting was held in the office of State Senator Smith to discuss plans for testing the water in the vicinity of the Westside Corporation's property for PCE. Senator Smith accepted DEP's proposal to conduct 12 such tests at the homes of residents who volunteered for testing. It was agreed that testing would be conducted on February 14, 15 and 16, dates that DEP's laboratory has a window of opportunity to perform the tests. Pumping Operations; Mosholu Pump Station Mosholu Pump Station was shut down at 9:00 a.m. on February 2, 2001 to allow Con Edison to do work on their feeder. The work was completed and the station was returned to service by 4:40 p.m. the same day. A similar shutdown is being requested by Con Edison to perform additional work on February 14, 2001. Con Edison canceled the feeder shut down for February 14, 2001 and rescheduled it for next week. We are waiting for Con Edison to give us the date for the feeder shut down requested for next week.

Distribution Capital projects for new water mains were initiated and sent to the Capital Planning Division for the following projects: - Improved water supply and fire protection for 159th Street and 84th Avenue in Queens - Improved water supply and fire protection for Randalls and Wards Island - Improved water supply and fire protection for 110th Street, between Frederick Douglas Boulevard and Malcolm X Boulevard in Manhattan - New Buildings in Belfield Avenue, between Rosedale Avenue and Woodrow Road, in Staten Island
