condition. They have prepared a blind flange for permanent installation and have done necessary preparation work to remove the valve, including removal of the gear mechanism. The intention is to remove the valve stem, the bonnet, and then the body of the valve itself. They will be using a hoisting system devised by our machinists. The work is scheduled to begin on Saturday February 17, 2001 due to distribution concerns.

Springfield Gardens Industrial Park (Air Freight Area) (a/k/a SE-727); Queens Springfield Gardens Residential Areas (a/k/a SE-727A and SE-727B); Queens The next meeting of the Springfield Gardens Task Force team consisting of DEP, Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) took place on Thursday, February 15, 2001. Currently, the Task Force anticipates meeting its goals for the next series of action dates for the project. The targeted bid date for the project is March 1, 2001. The next progress report to the Borough President has been moved up to Friday, March 16, 2001. At the last meeting, additional comments from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) were received which were forwarded to DEP's OEPA Office for review with DEC. It is hoped that the State DEC permit will be secured prior to the project bid date.

Local Law 65/96 Notifications and Notices of Violations (NOV); Citywide Three (3) homeowners in the Broad Channel area of Queens, who failed to respond to several prior LL 65196 notices to connect to the public sewer, failed to appear at an Environmental Control Board (ECB) after being subject to a board Cease and Desist Order. As a result, the Board ordered the homeowner's water be shut off. However, after receiving the shut off notices, the three homeowners each contacted ECB and arranged for hearings, thereby postponing the shutoff of their water service pending the outcome of the hearings.

Septic Failure at 227 Kramer Avenue; Staten Island At the request of the NYC Department of Health, inspectors from DEP posted a Water Shutoff Notice at 227 Kramer Avenue due to an overflowing septic system condition. The Shutoff Order was scheduled for February 7, 2001; but was postponed at the request of NYC DOH. The homeowner finally took corrective measures and had their septic system pumped out and treated with chemical cleaner. DEP will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis until the overflow situation is fully addressed.
