A check of records indicates that a number of DEP facilities completed within the past 40 to 50 years lack C of O's, unless they have been recently renovated or upgraded. We are committed to obtaining C of O's for all facilities.

Force Main Leak at Red Hook Plant Last week, evidence of leakage was discovered coming frem a 66-inch force main connecting one of the main sewage pumps and the primary tanks at the Red Hook WPCP. A repair contractor was called in, and after excavation work was completed, it was discovered that there was leakage from two separate holes in the casing, as well as a small crack. The contractor's first attempt at repairs was an application of epoxy to the problem points, but leaking continued. The contractor is now in the process of fabricating a unique band clamp that will encircle the entire force main, after which the steel casing portion of the pipe will be encased in While the plant awaits these final concrete.

repairs, a temporary sump pump has been installed to reduce the flow in the force main, keeping leakage to a minimum. The swift action by plant personnel in initiating the repair process has prevented a major failure of the force main, along with its potential for significant disruption of plant operations.

International Videoconference/September 26th and 27th DEP staff in New York City contributed to an exchange with a conference on trenchless technology being held in Paris by formal presentations of New York City's perspective on trenchless technology and on our plans for continuous electronic monitoring of large trunk watermains, Staff from DDC and private utilities also participated.

Westchester Waterworks DEP Water Supply staff attended an opening of the new water treatment facility for Northern Westchester Joint Water Works on September 29th.

Recognition of DEP Employee On September 21st the Concrete Industry Board presented an award to George Cakiades of DEP. George has many years of public service beginning with the board of wafer supply continuing with its successor DEP. The award was in recognition of his many years of commitment to assuring concrete quality on various DEP projects.
