Environmental Justice. A second DEC EJ Advisory Group monthly meeting has been cancelled because drafters of the EJ policy recommendations to the DEC Commissioner have not completed their respective sections of the document. Regular meetings of the Advisory Group are expected to resume at the end of March.
Superfund Legislation: The meeting with the Law Department, DEP, and City Planning to discuss potential State Superfund/Brownfields legislation has been rescheduled for Monday, February 26.
Energy Projects: Although MOEC is neither the lead nor the project manager for any of the energy projects, we will update you on any information we are aware of with regard to these matters.
NYPA Turbine Generators: DEP is still awaiting D/M Harding's decision on whether DEP should forward its response letter to NYPA.
PSC/Request for Waivers: Rich Miller at EDC hosted a meeting today with DOT, DCP DEP and MOEC to discuss permitting issues with PSC. A copy of the minutes is attached.
Iroquois Gas Transmission Line: Iroquois proposes to construct a natural gas pipeline from Long Island to the Bronx. Last week, MOEC received a call from Martha Holstein, who was hired by Iroquois to do its New York City outreach. She would like to brief our office and other City agencies on the project in the near future. Alessandra contacted Inga Van Eysden from the Law Department, who is handling this matter on behalf of DPR. The briefing will be scheduled for some time in March at the Law Department. Thus far, the invitees will be: D/M Lhota, MOEC, Law, DCP, DPR, DEP, DOT, MOT and EDC.
DEP Issues: Alessandra attended DEP's Senior Staff on Tuesday, February 20`h. Some of the DEP issues discussed were: ^
1) Bridge over the Croton dam — the interim repairs will take approximately two months. However, based on the results of the analysis recently done, the consultant has recommended ,j._' that the bridge be replaced. Therefore, the long-term repair of the bridge, which was to commence in June, is being revisited and will most likely have to be re-bid. The bridge will be opened for a certain tonnage, in between the interim repair and the final bridge replacement. \ \v
2) Croton Filtration — all options are being examined to resolve this matter. Commissioner Miele will brief D/M Lhota on these concepts in the near future. One option is putting the C`I plant upstate. At one in tine DEP was told not to explore this option, but can it be put back on~ the table? In addition, what are the current plans for the Kings Bridge Armory? This was \ also a location examined in the past. In addition, it was reported at last week's staff meeting that SLA and the Law Department were awaiting a metes and bound description from DEP for the legislation. DEP will get this to them this week. (DEP did not have this metes and bounds description and had the consultant prepare one for the footprint of the plant.)
