At your request an asbestos eurvcy was ra eted at apartment 7 0C at 105 Duane Street in Manhattan. The purpose of the survey to detenninc levels of asbestos contamination inside the building. The sti was performed on December 3, 2001 by Edward olmsted, CIH, CSP.
The oollapse of the World Trade Center ildings caused the release of dust and debris containing a9besim. The asbestos conta tg debris was spread thrvugbout the collapse site and around the surrounding nelgbbc pod. Other contaminants were also spread through the neighborhood Many of thi contaminants including the asbestos settled on surfaces and were drawn into buildings )ugb the ventilation system. This survey was made to determine the level of asbestos lint in the -101° floor apartment and hallway of the building_
Surface dust samples were collected a, ding to the method 5755-95 published by the America u Scx:icty of Testing and Mate s (ASTM) This involves drawing dust from a surface area of 100 square centimetrr~c a 0.8 micron mixed cellulose ester filter. The dust was collected using a personal sa ng pump operated at 2 liters per minute. The filter is analyzed by transmission elect microscopy for asbestos fibers.
