Finally, we have been also advised that there is a web site that is being used to spread misinformation that is causing consternation among some residents. Specifically, a resident has had a testing company take a single surface sample in or around a hallway air duct grill. NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued a statement referring to wipe sampling and/or micro-vacuum sampling as "not recognized methods of asbestos sampling and should not be used".

In addition, we have spoken to the resident's tester and he indicates that he made it clear to the resident's representative that the test method was not recognized by DEP. He also told the representative that there is no correlation between surface test results and exposure to a health risk. In addition, the representative is well aware of our attempts to start cleaning the ductwork of all dust and that the methods we are using follow exactly what the tester recommended.

In response to the concerns we sensed residents would have upon receiving the above misinformation, last night, December 12th we arranged for additional air testing to be done. ATC Consultants performed 5 air tests in the 10th floor corridor (which is where the above single surface sample was taken from) and 5 air tests in the mechanical room on the second floor which is where air circulates through the air handler that services the common areas. These tests were performed under the supervision of the DEP and we are pleased to report that zero asbestos fibers were detected in all of the tests. A summary of the test results is attached for your review.

We are striving to be sensitive to the natural concerns that all residents and workers in downtown are subject to at this time and hope that you will carefully review information that is presented for your consideration.

We will continue to update you on the above issues and others as they present themselves. If you have any questions that you feel require more information than is available from our building staff, do not hesitate to contact us at the following email addresses:

Once again, thank you for your patience and cooperation.
