Surfer drat samples were collected as to the method .755-95 published by the Americ. : Znciety of Te sg and Mme s (ASTM) This involves drawing dust from a surface area of 200 square i.vntimeters a 0.8 micron mixed cellulose ester filter. The dust was collected usng a petsovz1 arm trig pump operated at 2 liters per minute~ The filter is analyzed by transmission elect microscoopry for ash fiber. Alt of the samples were shipped cveznght and as zed by 2AATI..

The 'World Trade Cem tower buildings 1 and 2 had asbestos contadntug fire proofing, on the structural steel on some of the floors. This consisted primarily of cbrysodle asbestos. AsbesgtOS fibers are recognized as a h carcinogen, winch primarily affect the respiratory system. The types of cancer ssoc1atrd with asbestos expostue include lung cancer, pleural mesot elioma and peritotl.eal mesothelioma. Asbestos can ~!'_sc cause asbestosis, a debilitating respiratory direst. The latency period between exposure to asbestos and development of disease is 1 to 25 years. The ptir.. iple mute of exposure to asbestos is thigh inhalation.
