The 41 µg/ft2 sample was taken from glass table top in Room 527. The room a
window was left open during the disaster and the floor and room contents are covered with dust. The 69 µg/ ft2 sample was taken from the vinyl flooring in the southwest corner of the second floor.Again, windows were left open and the floor and office contents are covered with dust. This testing indicates that significant lead contamination is not a problem in the building. The affected areas require some cleaning, which is discussed later in this report.
Asbestos Air Samnlin
10 air samples (one per floor) were taken and analyzed by an accredited asbestos laboratory using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) TEM analysis is accurate for finding even trace amounts of asbestos fibers very
present in the air.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a protocol for determining whether school areas are safe for re-occupancy after completion of asbestos abatement projects. This procedure is covered by EPA 40 CFR Part 763, Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools. The procedures state that the average asbestos airborne fiber level in the abated work area must be less than 70 asbestos structures per square millimeter (AS/mm2).
The laboratory results from the testing on September 25, found no asbestos structures present in 8 of the samples. 2 samples had one asbestos structure (fiber) present and the levels were well below the allowable 70 AS/mm2. Reference the attached laboratory results from EMSL Analytical.
