RE: New York Mercantile Exchange building
One North End Avenue, New York City
Gentlemen:
As per your request today I performed a superficial field observation of the accessible
areas of the referenced above NYMEX building structure as well as review of the original
design documents available. This was urgently required to assess any structural damages
that could have been caused by the recent destruction and collapse of the World Trade
Center buildings nearby. Public access to the building and restoration of its normal
activities is planned for a day after tomorrow.
Performed field observations did not reveal any structural damages, distortions,
settlements, cracking, etc. that could be associated with and be caused by collapse of the
nearby buildings. In our opinion at this time the building is in structurally satisfactory
condition, and its normal use may be restored.
However we recommend periodical monitoring of the structural condition of the building
due to the continuing excavation work near the building site and the associated changes
in the soil condition that can have an adverse affect. In-depth inspection of the building
structure as well instrumental monitoring of the deformations would be required if any
signs of the distress were discovered.
Very truly yours
Simon Fridman, P.E.
