PART II - PRODUCTS ,A. PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CYLINDER PIPE - 20" I.D. LINES 1. The pipe for the relocated auxiliary river water intake lines shall be 20" I.D. prestressed concrete cylinder pipe. 2. Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe shall be of the type known as "Prestressed Concrete Pressure Pipe, Steel Cylinder Type, for Water and Other Liquids”, and shall conform to the latest edition of AWWA Specification C 301. It shall be composed of continuous arc-welded steel cylinder with steel joint rinarj welded to its ends. The steel cylinder shall then be lined with con- Crete, wrapped with high tensile strength wire under tension and coated with a dense covering of cement mor tar. 3. The pipe shall be made by a manufacturer experienced in producing pipe of the type, size and quality specified herein. The pipe manufacturer shall have a record of at least five years successful performance in producing this type of pipe. 4. Design: The pipe shall be designed for a working pres sure of 22^ p.s.i.g., in combination with the maximum earth load which will be applied after backfill is in place. A surge pressure allowance of of the working pressure, and the applicable live load, shall also be taken into account in the design. The pipe shall with-. stand an internal hydrostatic pressure equal to at least 1.25 times the designed working pressure without induc ing tensile stress in the core. a. Pipe shall be furnished in twenty (20) foot nominal lengths, at the option of the manufacturer. b. The steel cylinder shall not be less than 19 gauge. Each completed cylinder shall be subjected to a hydrostatic test, using water pressure sufficient to produce a minimum tensile stress of 20,000 psi in the cylinder walls and shall show no leakage. No cylinders shall be accepted without passing this test.
