.2. Temporary sheeting shall be maintained by the Sub­ contractor until acceptance of the work by the Contractors Representative. C. DEWATERING 1. It shall be the responsibility of this Subcontractor to control and maintain water levels in the excavations so that all excavation will be done in the dry. The water level in the excavation shall at all times be a minimum of 2 feet below the deepest excavation. Softening of the bottom will not be allowed. Subcontractor shall maintain and operate the dewatering system until acceptance of the work by the Contractor.

D. BACKFILL 1. Trenches shall be backfilled with recent fill or similar clean sand compacted to 95% of standard Proctor density within 5 feet of finished grade and 90% otherwise. 2. Maximum compacted lift thickness shall not exceed I'-g inches in structural areas, such as footings, roads, sidewalks. Maximum compacted lift thickness shall not exceed 24 inches in non-structural areasKo compaction is allowed on frozen ground. 3. Filter stone at demolished bulkhead. E. DISPOSAL The Subcontractor shall dispose of excavated material in accordance with MRJD Drawing No. SP-1, dated 1-15-82. With respect to offsite disposal of material, Subcontractor shall comply with requirements of General Conditions, Paragraph 2.16.07. 1. Recent fill (F~2) - Recent fill as defined in Para­ graph II.B.l.a of this section shall be stockpiled on the Battery Park City site in areas designated by the Contractor. 2. Organic silt (A-2) & Miscellaneous unsuitable (F-2) a. Organic silt and Miscellaneous unsuitabale shall be defined in Paragraph II.B.l b&c of this section shall • be disposed of off-site at locations selected by the Sub­ contractor. All costs of transporting, permits and dis­ posal sites shall be borne by the Subcontractor. 3. Alternate - The Contractor shall have the option, of having Subcontractor dispose of portions of these materials which cannot be properly disposed of on the Battery Park City site, as fill conveyed to New York Department of Sani­ tation.
