the concrete material and protecting the concrete against freezing, but no frozen materials or materials containing ice shall be used. Temperatures of the separate materials, including the mixing water, when placed in the mixer, shall not exceed 140°F. When placed in forms, the concrete shall have a temperature between 50°F and 70°F. B. MIXING CONCRETE 1. Unless otherwise authorized, the mixing of concrete shall be done in a batch mixer of approved AGC type or in transit-mix equipment conforming to ASTM Specification C- 94, using Alternate No. 2 method to determine quality. The volume of the mixed material for each batch shall not exceed the manufacturer's rated capacity of the mixer. If transit- mixed, the materials shall be brought to the site dry and the period of time from batching to the addition of water at ths site of the pour shall not exceed thirty minutes. 2, Site mixed concrete shall be mixed in an approved batch mixer and the batching and mixing shall be of suffi­ cient capacity and power to carry out each prearranged concrete operation without danger of delay or interruption until the unit or concrete pour is completed. The mixer drum shall be rotated at the speed recommended by the manufacturer and. mixing of the concrete ingredients shall continue for not less than 1-1/2 minutes from, the time all of the materials, including the water, are in the mixer drum. Mixing shall continue until all the ingredients are uniformly distributed throughout the batch and the mass of the concrete is homogeneous and uniform in color. Dis­ charge of concrete shall be completed within a maximum period of 30 minutes. No new materials shall be permitted to enter the mixer until all of the preceeding batch has been discharged. Mixing and handling equipment shall be cleaned at frequent intervals while in use. 3. All concrete shall be used while fresh and before thei'e is any evidence of initial set. Any concrete v/hich has achieved its initial, set shall be rejected and not used in the Work. No retempering of concrete will be , permitted. C., CONCRETE TESTING

1, Tests of the concrete will be made by an approved independent testing and inspection laboratory hired by the Contractor.
