2. The working consistency of the concrete shall be slump test described in ASTM Specification C-143, Current.Edition.

3, Each of the constituent materials of the concrete shall be accurately measured by weight, unless other­ wise specified or approved by the Contractor, and the method of measurement shall be such as to secure the specified proportions in each batch. 4. Coarse aggregate shall have a maximum size of 3/4 inch unless the size- is otherwise limited by the spacing of the reinforcing in the concrete. 5. The Subcontractor shall employ and pay for, as part of his contract price, an approved Testing Laboratory to design a serie-s of concrete mixes using the materials and sources which he proposes to employ during the Construction of the Work. Concrete design mixes shall produce an average strength 15% higher than the minimum 2 8 day strength .specified. III. EXECUTION

A. BATCHING OF I4ATEP.IAL

1. The materials shall be measured in conformance with the requirements of the ASTM Specification C94. Weight-batch apparatus for conventional, type mixers shall also meet the same requirements. 2. Bulk cement shall be. weighed on scales having a degree of control and accuracy such that the delivered weight shall be correct within one percent. The scale and weight hopper shall be separate and distinct from those used for other materials. Cement may be batched on a bag basis; the weight of a bag of Portland Cement (U.S.) shall be taken as 94 pounds and only whole units are to be used with this method.

3. Aggregates shall be weighed or; scales having a degree of control of accuracy such that the delivered weights are correct within two percent. /'"■oisture, both free and absorbed, shall be corrected for and the free moisture shall be taken into account when dispensing the mixing water. 4. Water shall be measured by volume or weight with an accuracy and control within a one percent tolerance. 5. When, the outdoor temperature is below 40°? or is likely to fall below 40°F during the 24-hou.r period after placing, adequate equipment shall be provided for heating
