1.4.5 Radiation Hazards

General Radiological contamination or hazards due to past activities at the site are not anticipated at any of the remedial action sites. Background monitoring has been conducted and will continue to ensure no radiation hazards are present.

1.5 WORKER ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

1.5.1 Site Orientation The Contractor will ensure that all employees on the project attend site orientation training prior to beginning field work assignments.

1.5.2 General Training Contractors shall provide their employees with the ES&H training required to comply with their ES&H plan, achieve compliance with regulatory standards, and other training and qualification necessary for an employee to complete the assigned job duties safely and in an environmentally sound manner.

Documentation of all required training (e.g., training certificates or attendance rosters) shall be maintained by the employer and made available for inspection. Training documentation shall be maintained in an organized manner that is readily retrievable and shows that individual workers have the required training.

All personnel have the right and responsibility to stop work anytime unsafe conditions (i.e., those that have not been previously addressed) arise, or the Scope of Work changes from that which was originally briefed or understood.

1.5.3 Site-Specific Training Prior to commencement of field activities all personnel assigned to the project will have completed site-specific training that includes hazardous activities, procedures, monitoring, and equipment used in the site operations. Site-specific training will also include site layout, potential hazards, risks associated with identified hazardous substances at the site, hazard communication as necessary, PPE, incident reporting, emergency response actions, and available emergency services. This training allows field workers to clarify anything they do not understand and to reinforce their responsibilities regarding safety and work operations for their particular activity.

1.5.4 Substance Abuse All Contractors shall maintain and implement a Drug Free Workplace program for site work activities performed on the project. Use, or working under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances (other than prescribed or over-the-counter medication) is strictly prohibited. Site workers are subject to substance abuse testing at any time “for cause” or following a safety or property damage incident.
