September 16,2001: Bureau of Environmental Compliance Recommendations Regarding the Re-Occupancy of Evacuated Buildings & Bureau’s Update on Daily Report Regarding Hazmat Activities and Asbestos Air Sampling:

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ISSUES

• All inquiries regarding the re-occupancy of buildings with regard to health & safety issues should be referred to the New York City Department of Health (DOH). DOH reports that they will open up a hotline beginning at 9AM on Monday September 17.

THE DOH HOTLINE NUMBER IS (212) 213 - 1844

• DEP’s Bureau of Environmental Compliance (BEC) will offer any technical support and advice needed to assist DOH in their mission.

• It is EEC’s recommendation that DOH’s Public Health Advisory regarding the re­ occupancy of buildings be finalized and posted on the City’s website and that DOH should attempt to disseminate the information to all affected parties. The Real Estate Board, Building Management Agencies and others may be able to assist DOH in this endeavor.

• It is BEC’s recommendation that DOH reach out to other agencies as well as DEP to gain staffing assistance, if needed, with their Hotline.

• DEP’s, BEC will continue to address the air, asbestos and/or hazardous material clean-up through the DEP complaint center at 718 DEP-HELP.

Update on Daily Report Regarding Hazmat Activities and Asbestos Air Sampling:

• Results of Air Testing at City Hall: All asbestos wipes taken following the clean-up at City Hall tested negative. Additional air monitoring results are expected by early evening.

• Update on HEPA Vacuuming of Financial District:

All streets east of Broadway have been addressed. Site inspections indicate that the streets are clean, free of debris and are accessible to the general public.

Contractors have completed clean-up of City Hall Park and Park Row.
