NY 11373 Dear Commissioner Strickland, I am writing to urge you to move forward on the property damage claims submitted to the NYC Comptroller’s office last summer from Hurricane Irene affecting nearly 396 Queens residents, many of which reside in my district.

Immediately following the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, homeowners filed claims with the NYC comptroller’s office for flood related damage wliicli they have determined to be city negligence. As the claim form for waler damage or loss clearly indicates, “claims must be resolved within one year and 90 days of the rainstorm or the claimant must pursue legal action.” If the claims are not settled within the set time from the date of the cP occurrence on August 28,2011 tlian Ute claimant must file a lawsuit against the Chy of New York. All Queens residents who filed a claim did so in a timely manner and yet, time is quickly running out to find a settlement that would provide assistance to cover the costs for properly damage and loss. As per lite Coinplroller’s Office, they are still waiting on a'delerminallon from DEP. Respectfully, I request your agency provide the Comptroller’s OlTice with the necessary Information they need to determine fair reimbursements and not wait until legal action is taken. N My district was bit the hardest by Hurricane Irene and many local residents have waited nearly a year for relief » from the damage. I respectfully request that you investigate this situation and come to a decision before the quickly approaching deadline. Please inform me of any corrective actions taken.
