3.03 FIT TESTING:
A. The Contractor shall ensure that the workers are initially qualitatively or quantitatively fit tested. Fit types of respirators to be actually worn by each individual. An individual shall use only those respirators for which he/she has been trained and fit tested.
B. Whenever the respirator design permits, workers shall perform the positive and negative air pressure fit check each time a respirator is worn in accordance with the requirements set forth in 29 CFR1910.134, Appendix B-1. Powered air-purifying respirators shall be tested for adequate flow as specified by the manufacturer.
C. Records of respiratorfit tests for all personnel shall be provided to the Owner and be available at the work site weekly.
3.04 TYPES OF RESPIRATORY PROTECTION REQUIRED:
A. The Contractor shall provide respirators selected by an Industrial Hygienist that meet the following requirements:
1. Half-mask and full-face air-purifying respirators with HEPA filters shall be used to reduce the concentrations of airborne asbestos fibers in the respirator below the exposure limits specified by federal, state, and local regulations when the ceiling or the 8-hour time- weighted average airborne concentrations of asbestos fibers are reasonably expected to exceed no more than 10 times those limits.
2. Full-face powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) equipped with HEPA filters shall be used to reduce the concentrations of airborne asbestos fibers in the respirator below the exposure limits specified by federal, state, and local regulations when the ceiling or the 8- hour time-weighted average airborne concentrations of asbestos fibers are reasonably expected to exceed 10 times, but not more than 100 times, those limits. A supply of charged replacement batteries, HEPA filters and flow test meter shall be available in the clean room for use with powered air-purifying respirators. HEPA filters shall be changed daily or as flow testing indicates change is necessary.
3. Use of single use dust respirators is PROHIBITED for the above respiratory protection.
4. NO ONE is to be permitted into the work area without proper respiratory protection.
3.05 MAINTENANCE AND DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES:
A. Respiratory protection maintenance and decontamination procedures shall meet the following requirements;
1. Respiratory protection equipment shall be inspected and decontaminated on a daily basis in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, Appendix B-2; and
2. HEPA filters for negative pressure respirators shall be changed on a daily basis; and
3. Respiratory protection shall be the last piece of worker protection equipment to be removed. Workers must wear respirators in the shower when going through decontamination procedures as stated in Section 9, 3.02; and 43 © AMBIENT GROUP, INC. -2002
