Jane - please give this to Mikel! Thanks. We need to raise this at our task force meeting with Kenny and Callahan on Monday! There is no way EPA should be issuing any benchmarks, guidance ... that cannot be attained! This is counter to any common sense. ---- Original Message----- flRTL.. From Michael Gilsenan

Diana Chapin asked me to call/fax you regarding today’s EPA Indoor Working Group meeting. At the meeting. DEP stated its position regarding the asbestos levels that the COC committee has recommended. Our stated position was the same that was articulated at last Tuesday’s Sr. Staff meeting with Joel. Once again, DEP is concerned that the levels under consideration will set new standards that are unreasonable for schools, businesses and other dwellings throughout the City. We indicated to Mark Maddaloni of EPA our concerns regarding scientific backup for these levels as well as assumptions made regarding risk factors. Also, you should note that some staff from NYCDOH and NYCCOSH seemed to agree with our position.
