Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 (EPA) bosted a New York City Department of Health (NY QD Management, the New York City Depa 4 rel of Law, the New York Staic Deparment of Law and the Federal Bureau of Investigatio# Thes appropriate disposition of vehicles currently held by the City that may bave bean affacted by dust frora the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC). | | | | ; | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We understand that the Department of Sanitation (NYCDOS) hay approximately 708 such vehicles stored at the Fresh Kills Landfill. We learned that NYCDOS has gent letters to the, t received positive responses on 68 of these vehicles. Of those, 62 of the responses were iisurance companies, three | were from individuals and three were from leasing Sms. Ww aware that it is your intant to begin to release these vehicles in the near term. The owners-dlithe vehicles were to be given the| NYCDOH guidance on vehicle cleaning and advised to follow it, We appreciate the faci that tho City, based upon the concerns we have raised praviously, agreed to delay the process to allow. further discussions to take place. (We understand that the Port of Authority of New York and | New Jersey algo has custody of spproximstety 500 vehicles affected by WIC dust, but apparersly has no immediate plans to release than. We will bc communicating separately wih | the Port Anthority soganding the ultimate disposition of those vehicles.)
