The cleaning that would have to be done should follow the aggressive inspection and cleaning procedures included in the NYCDOH document cutitled Information for Agencies « Additional Cleaning for City Vehicles Involved in the Wie Response. We do not believe it would be prodent fo release these vehicles to the cywrrent owners in theix current condition. Before any release to the owner, the City should reqntire that fhe owner | atrange to have the vehicle sent directly to a cemificd professional asbestos Cleaning company. Only after the City receives documentation from the cleanimg company certifying to the City and | to the owner that asg ~~ Sfactory, thorough cleaning was performed should the vehicle be released ajo reporamend that the cleanup company include within this certification kergingic air-pinifying respirators with P100 filter cartridges winle cleaning, as specified in the abovyt-citid NYCDOH document.) For those individuals who may not have the funds to have this feaning conducted, EPA will inquite with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to find out whether any financial assistance for this purpose may | be avaijable. We make tha recommendations in this letter in order to protect the current vehicle owner, the cleaning personnel and any third party indi iduals who may ride in or purchase these vehicles in the farure. If the City disagrees with our recommendations it is inaportant that I be notified immediately and in advance of temate action releasing these vehicles.
