Michael,

As promised, this e-mail is a foBow-up to our conversation earlier today.

As Senior Advisor to Mayor Merino, I have been interacting regularly over the past year with representatives from Mayor Giuliani's adtrinistratton in New York City. During the past week, I've offered condolences and assistance to several. In particular, I spoke tost evening to Commissioner Joel Miele who is responsible for the NYC Department of the Environment. As has been reported, they've had to turn many volunteers away. He did say, however, ttiat there will likely be a need soon for additional HAZMAT assistance.

He asked for an inventory of resources that Boston (and Massachusetts) have available.

I spoke this morning with Chief Paul Christian of the Boston Fire Department who agreed to have an extra HAZMAT team on standby. Chief Christian and I botti felt that any possible deployment should be coordinated by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and its agencies. We are well aware of the substantiai resources available through the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

As we discussed, I am forwarding Commisaoner Miele's contact informatton with a request that he be copied by fax with that section of the inventory of Massachusetts resources being compiled that relates to HAZMAT.

Thanks, Michael. Best of luck as we continue through this very difficult time.

Sincerely,

Kathy OToole
