NYSDEC ALBANY CO SPILLS P,04/11
• ‘SEP-18-2001 10--11
Six sediment samples were collected on 9/15/01 and analyzed on 9/17/01 for Pesticide/PCB
analysis by GC/ECD. The results and MDLs are reported in units of pg/Kg
Analytical interpretations; The samples wore extracted using soxhlet method, Low concentration
(<26ug/Kg) of few pesticide compounds (DDE, Dieldrin DDT) and low concentrations (<lppm)
Of weathered Aroclor 1254 and weathered Aroclor 1260 were found. Due to severe
contamination of the first column (DB-608) from the extracts during the pesticide run, the second
column was used to quantitate the PCBs concentration in all samples.
A surrogate solution was added to ail samples prior to extraction. All surrogate recoveries were
within the QA/QC criteria, and surrogate recoveries ranged from $2% to 137%,
Sample WTC-Pl was chosen to be spiked with pesticide spike solution. g’BHC and DDT were
sightly out of the QA/QC criteria on the low side in both MS and MSD and heptachlor was also
out of the QA/QC criteria on the low side in MSD, due to matrix effect. Low MS/MSD
recoveries for DDT and the end of sequence QC indicated tliat DDT may have decomposed
during the analysis. Recoveries of the rest of the spike compounds were within tiie QA/QC
criteria and recoveries ranged from 36% to 91%.
The initial calibration, the continuing calibrations, resolution check, and PEMs all met QC
criteria. The blank wa-s free from any target compounds. Sample were extracted and analyzed
within REAC’s holding time period.
Samples are being reanalized to confirm the DDT results.
