Dear Mayor Bloomberg: The WTC Etnergency Environmental Group congratulates you on becoming the new Mayor of New York City. We look forward to working and meeting with you to improve the air quality, health and safety of Lower Manhattan in the aftermath of the WTC attack. Our organization is comprised of downtown residents, workers, buisnesses, parents of school children in the area, and supporting organizations concerned about the environmental impact of the WTC attack.
Four months after September 11th, there are still many unresolved environmental health issues feeing our communities. Downtown residents, workers, buisness owners and students have been sick with respiratory and other health problems stemming fi'om the poor air quality, inadequate debris removal, building cleanup and preventive health education regarding ways to reduce toxic exposure.
On December 18th, the WTC Emergency Envirorunental Group held a press conference and rally at City Hall to highlight these important issues. Following the press conference and rally, many media outlets picked up on the story and have continued to publicize the ongoing health and environmental problems in Lower Manhattan. Among the elected officials who spoke and endorsed our efforts were new City Council Member Allan Gerson, outgoing City Council Member Kathryn Freed, and representatives from the offices of Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Borough President C. Virginia Fields and State Senator Martin Connor.
Therefore, we are requesting a meeting with you soon as possible, to discuss these urgent safety matters.
