RE: Public forum to discuss the joint Federal/City residential cleanup program

-2, On May 9, 2002 USEPA Regional Administrator Jane Kenny and myself announced a comprehensive federally-funded plan to ensure that apartments impacted by the collapse of the World Trade Center have been cleaned. The plan includes: cleaning residential units using certified contractors with follow-up testing for asbestos; asbestos testing within dwelling units apart from any cleaning; creation of a hotline to take cleaning Wvi" V'Oj 2- and testing requests; making HEPA filter vacuums available; distributing 1 health and cleaning information; and, cleaning the remaining unoccupied, uncleaned buildings.

To convey information about this program to lower Manhattan residents and property owners, representatives of USEPA and DEP are planning to conduct a public forum on or about May 28, 2002, probably at Pace University. In preparation for that meeting, I am inviting you or your staff to attend a briefing on Thursday, May 23, from 3-5 p.m. at the do •€fTapei^?/290 Broadway?I look forward to discussing with you ways in which we might best convey the details about this comprehensive program to interested parties.

If you or your staff will be able to attend, please RSVP to Mark Lanaghan here at DEP. His number is 718-595-3519.
