12 Inch Water Main Break - East 175th Street and Prospect Avenue; Bronx At 5:30 a.m. Sunday, January 7, 2001 while investigating a street leak in front of 810 East 175`" Street DEP personnel determined that the 12 inch water main at that location had failed. The crew called for assistance and initiated a shutdown on the failed main. Consumers on the block serviced by the main were notified that the water was off and that emergency repairs were in progress. Water service was restored at 5:45 Sunday afternoon.

12 Inch Water Main Break - East Tremont and Bronxdale Avenues; Bronx On Wednesday, January 10, 2001 DEP Central Communications received a report of a water main break in the intersection of East Tremont and Bronxdale Avenues. DEP personnel responded, were on location at 3:30 a.m. and found considerable street flooding. The crew determined that a 12 inch water main in the intersection had failed and they initiated an emergency shutdown. Traffic was diverted and utilities with structures in the vicinity of the break were called to the location. Approximately two hundred and fifty residential consumers were affected by the shutdown. Existing gas mains and telephone lines, that were installed over the failed main, had to be removed to facilitate repair of the water main. Removal of the utility interference delayed repairs but a temporary cap was installed on the water main to restore water service to all consumers. The location was turned over to the emergency repair contractor and normal water service was restored at 1:30 p.m. on January 17th. Reconstruction of the damaged roadway was completed on January 18th.

12 Inch Water Main Break - Jerome Avenue between Woodcrest Avenue and 161st Street; Bronx At 4:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11,2001, Central Communications received a report of a water main break in Jerome Avenue between Woodcrest Avenue and 161st Street. DEP personnel responded, were on location at 5:30 a.m., and found street flooding with water flowing from a broken 12 inch water main. The crew initiated a shutdown on the 12 inch main that affected a 100 unit nursing home located at 936 Woodcrest Avenue. Temporary water service was provided to the nursing home and DEP personnel initiated repairs on the failed main. Water service was restored at 12 noon on January 12.
