Citywide Heavy Rains, December 16 and 17, 2000 - Minor Street Flooding and Sewer Backups; caused Heavy rainfall,in the Metropolitan area Saturday and Sunday December 16 and 17, 2000 debris over some roadway flooding. In general, the flooding was the result of an accumulation of removed gratings that obstructed the flow into catch basins. DEP personnel patrolling area highways temporarily the debris and the flooding quickly subsided. In some areas the sewer system was ordered overtaxed and backed-up; however, the system quickly recovered. Maintenance crews were to extend their normal shifts in order to address problem areas.

Water Service Break - 113th Street Between 75th and 77th Avenues; Queens of Tuesday morning, December 12, 2000, DEP Central Communications received a report responded and a street leak in 113th Street between 75th and 77th Avenues. DEP personnel found street flooding in front of 75-31 113th Street. The crew called for assistance and residential initiated a shutdown on the eight inch water main that affected ten, six story service buildings. Department personnel excavated over the leak and determined that the stopping the leak, line for 75-20 113th Street had failed. The valve on that line was closed, consumers and the building owner was notified to make repairs. The water service to other was restored.
