JAMES WHELAN II MAYOR
Dear Mayor: oU D 9 Z Z _u/3 /
I am writing to invite you to join me this fall in Atlantic City for the national Brownfields 2000 Conference. Last year, more than 2300 people attended the Brownfields '99 Conference in Dallas. This year's conference, from October 11-13, promises to be equally successful.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors has identified contaminated properties such as brownfields as the major issue impeding the redevelopment of our nation's cities. The Brownfields 2000 Conference will update you and your brownfields program staff with the latest information on issues surrounding the redevelopment of brownfields. It will also provide you with the opportunity to meet directly with other mayors and other officials from around the nation that are working on brownfields issues.
As president of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, I know your experience with brownfields issues would add valuable insights to the conference discussions. Given the leadership you have shown in promoting brownfields redevelopment, I urge you to participate in one of the many panels being planned. The expertise you have gained from your hands-on experience with these properties would be of great benefit to the conference attendees.
This year, the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP) has received from the USEPA a cooperative agreement to present and formulate the technical scope of the conference, and is leading the non-federal co-sponsor coordination for this conference. If you or members of your staff would like to participate in the Brownfields 2000 Conference, contact Amy Lesko at the ESWP at (412) 261-0710, ext. 32.
I look forward to seeing you in Atlantic City in October.
Sincerely,
?James Whelan Mayor
